Take this blog with you! Guide yourself around the tombs of the rich & infamous and visit the top 70 places to rest in peace in Buenos Aires.
Several years, thousands of photos & 22 pages later, the only guidebook to Recoleta Cemetery which can be easily used inside is available for purchase.
The PDF guidebook has a clean & crisp look, designed to be printed either at home or while in Buenos Aires (color printing is best, but black & white is also fine). It covers 70 tombs & mausoleums, divided into easy-to-navigate sections of 10 tombs each. In addition, there are sections which discuss the foundation of the cemetery, details of its current operation, some of the symbolism to be found inside, & a full-page master map… in fact, it is the only accurate map in existence.

The walk focuses on art & architecture, a number of important historical events, a bit of urban legend & of course the cemetery’s most famous resident. Eva María Duarte de Perón—simply Evita to her devotées—had a bizarre post-mortem journey which is described at length. The entire walk should take about two hours to complete… the PDF is directed to those who want to explore the cemetery in-depth.

After reading through this blog, you should be familiar with many tombs listed in the PDF… post titles marked with a ◊ are included on this walk. For example, Rufina Cambacérès, Guerreros del Paraguay, Luis Ángel Firpo, Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, & David Spinetto are among the 70 mausoleums described.
Price: US $9.95 via PayPal. The PDF will be sent to the email address provided in PayPal. Use Adobe Acrobat Reader to open & print the file.
Duration: The route takes about 2 hours to walk at a leisurely pace. You may need extra time to gaze at all the architecture & take photos.
Format: A4 landscape, 22 pages.
Suggestions:
- For a quicker walk, supplemental text can be saved for later… ideal reading for a coffee break at La Biela after finishing the route.
- Best times to visit are early morning to avoid large tour groups or late afternoon when sunset casts a nice glow over the cemetery.
- Avoid heavy rain due to lack of covered shelter, & especially avoid midday summer sun for the same reason.
- Have fun & enjoy the walk!
All parts of the map including the design, walking route & text are copyrighted. It is NOT for redistribution, resale or reprinting.

Saludos.
